Complex Plant Movement in Central London
DSM Contract Lifting recently completed a 3.3T transformer installation within confined basement vaults in Westminster, working for a Tier 1 M&E contractor.
Tasks like this aren’t about big open lifts - they’re about control, planning, and getting heavy equipment into spaces that weren’t exactly designed for it.
Working in Restricted Underground Conditions

The transformers needed to be installed within underground vaults with tight access, low headroom, and very little margin for error.
This required a fully engineered approach, using:
A gantry system for controlled lifting
A bespoke skidding arrangement
Palletised tracking
Load-spreading platforms to manage weight distribution
Every movement had to be planned and carried out step by step.
Planning Makes the Difference
Before anything moved on site, the full methodology and sequencing were mapped out in detail.
That planning is what allows jobs like this to run smoothly.
No guesswork, no last-minute changes — just a clear process from start to finish.
Delivery on Site
Once on site, the team carried out the lift, slewing, and final positioning in a controlled and methodical way.
Despite the restricted environment, the transformers were installed safely and efficiently, exactly where they were required.
