Basement Install, No Crane? No Problem.

Not every heavy lift needs a crane on site, sometimes it just needs the right plan, the right tools, and the right team. That’s exactly what this central London job demanded, and it’s what DSM delivered.

We were called in to install a set of heavy transformers into a basement-level switchgear room. The catch? No external crane access, and no obvious way in.

Here’s how we made it happen:

◾️ First, we used one of our Reid Porta Gantry systems to remove an overhead steel section - opening up a structural soft-spot for safe lowering.

◾️ From there, each transformer was carefully lowered through the opening using bespoke rigging and confined-space techniques. The entire lift was executed under a fully managed DSM Contract Lift.

◾️ Once inside, the kit was tracked and skated with care - navigating narrow corridors and sensitive services with millimetre precision.

◾️ Final positioning complete and ready for the M&E team to connect.
