Choosing the right crane for the task can make a big difference on site.
DSM recently supported a rural steel frame build using our Böcker AK48 truck crane, helping with deliveries, offloading and the placement of steel sections as the structure progressed over several days.
This was not a single lift in and out. It was a full sequence of works, with the crane supporting the build as each stage came together.
Böcker AK48 Crane Hire for Steel Installation
The Böcker AK48 is a strong option for projects where reach, control and a practical setup are all important.

For this task, the AK48 was used to offload steel sections and carefully feed them into position as the frame was installed. Working around existing buildings and limited access, the team needed to maintain steady control throughout each lift while keeping the setup suitable for the site conditions.
This is where the AK48 comes into its own. It provides more reach and crane-like control than a standard HIAB, while still offering a practical solution for sites where bringing in a larger mobile crane may not be the best fit.
Working Around Site Constraints
Even on rural sites, access and setup are rarely as simple as they first appear.
Existing buildings, ground conditions, stored materials and live site activity all need to be considered before lifting begins. For this project, the team worked carefully around the available space, managing the setup and lifting sequence to support the build safely and efficiently.
Good crane hire is not just about supplying equipment. It is about understanding the site, choosing the right machine and making sure each lift supports the wider programme.
Contract Lifting and Steel Frame Support
Steel frame installation requires coordination between the lifting team, site team and
installation crew.
The crane needs to be positioned correctly, loads need to be controlled, and each section must be delivered safely into place. Across multi-day projects, consistency matters. The lifting operation has to remain controlled and reliable from the first delivery through to the final section.
DSM supports steel installation projects with both crane hire and fully managed contract lifting services, depending on the requirements of the task.
Crane Hire Across London, Essex and Cambridge
DSM provides crane hire and contract lifting support across London, Essex, Cambridge and the wider South East.
Our team regularly supports construction, commercial, industrial and rural projects involving:
Steel frame installation
Structural steel lifting
Restricted access lifting
Whether the project requires crane hire in London, crane hire in Essex or crane hire in Cambridge, DSM works with clients to provide the right lifting solution for the site.
The Right Machine for the Task
Not every project needs the largest crane available.
Sometimes the better solution is a machine that can offer reach, control and a practical setup for the working environment. On this project, the Böcker AK48 was well suited to the demands of the site, helping the team deliver a smooth steel installation sequence over multiple days.
It is a good example of how the right equipment, planning and experience can keep a project moving safely and efficiently.
