We’ve taken delivery of a new Volvo FH500 Aero Globetrotter 8x2 rear-lift-and-steer flatbed, fitted with Fassi’s new-generation F905RA.2.27 TECHNO crane.
Built for us by Mac’s Trucks to full FORS Silver specification, it gives the DSM team a seriously capable new option for crane hire, contract lifting and machinery movement across London, Essex, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and the wider South East.
Serious lifting capacity
The new truck is fitted with an L436 six-extension hydraulic fly jib and V20 winch, giving us a strong combination of lifting capacity and reach.
Headline lifting duties include:
Maximum capacity: 22,000kg
16,825kg at 4.45m
7,200kg at 9.75m
3,870kg at 16.25m
3,370kg at 18.25m on the main boom
2,175kg at 19.2m with the L436 fly jib and JDP activated
1,670kg at 23.25m
1,000kg at its full 28.1m hydraulic reach
That gives us another useful option for jobs where we need serious capacity, good reach and a truck that can still work effectively on more restricted sites.
As always, individual lifting duties will depend on the vehicle configuration, stabiliser position, operating sector, rigging and the lift plan for the job.

Fassi F905 TECHNO
The F905 TECHNO is the latest generation of Fassi loader crane and brings several changes over the previous F820 generation.
Its X-Design boom system uses decagonal boom sections manufactured from ultra-high-strength steel. The aim is straightforward: greater rigidity and improved lifting performance without unnecessarily increasing the overall weight of the crane.
Fassi says the F905 TECHNO delivers up to 7% more lifting power than the previous generation, with much larger gains possible in certain vertical lifting configurations.
The crane is also fitted with Jib Dual Power, which can provide extra fly-jib capacity when the crane geometry allows.
For the operator, the FSC TECHNO stability system continually matches the available lifting capacity to the stabiliser position and working configuration.
The truck also uses Fassi’s FX990 control system, FX991 touchscreen and V7 radio remote, giving the operator live information and precise control throughout the lift.
Built around the work we actually do
A big part of this build is the way Mac’s Trucks has configured the vehicle around the type of lifting and transport work we carry out.
The truck includes Mac’s remotely operated front stabiliser system, which sits concealed behind the front grille while travelling and helps increase the crane’s working envelope around the vehicle, including over the front of the cab.
The bespoke flatbed body also includes:
Stainless-steel storage
Chain wells
Spreader-pad storage
Recessed lashing points
Twist locks
Hydraulic rear greedy bar
Body-access ladders
Full fall-restraint handrail system
The V20 winch and permanent pulley arrangement also make it quicker to move between transport and lifting configurations.
It’s been built as a working truck rather than simply a crane mounted on a chassis, which is exactly what we wanted.

Crane hire across London, Essex and Cambridge
The F905 gives us another option for projects where reach, lifting capacity and site access all need to be considered together.
That could include construction projects, industrial sites, plant movement, machinery installation, infrastructure work and specialist transport.
For customers looking for crane hire in London, that versatility can be particularly useful on jobs where access is tight and there is limited room around the crane.
We also provide crane hire across Essex, supporting construction, commercial and industrial projects throughout the county.
Further north, our team carries out crane hire and contract lifting in Cambridge and across Cambridgeshire, alongside projects throughout Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey and the wider South East.
Depending on the task, DSM can provide either crane hire or a complete contract lifting service, including lift planning, supervision and management of the lifting operation.
Ready for work
This is a big addition to the DSM fleet and one we’re looking forward to putting to work.
The new F905 is now ready to support crane hire, contract lifting and machinery movement projects across London, Essex, Cambridge and beyond.
